Okay, honestly, I promise, more pictures coming soon.
Last weekend the car that was already barely a car became even less of one. The engine is now on a stand, the transmission is on the garage floor. Now, hopefully, I can clean and paint the frame rails, firewall, and the like.
Pulling the engine was surprisingly painless. For one thing, unlike most of the work I've done on the car, I had help. Moreover, the help was mechanically competent. And, of course, all the front-end sheetmetal and most of the engine plumbing was already off the car. So, aside from using more than our quota of hand-cleaner, the job went very smoothly. I now have a garage floor full of parts to inventory.
This weekend's only Galaxie-project has been to move it. The SHO has been in the paint shop in Suisun for paintwork. If this paint shop works out on the Taurus I'll probably have him do the Galaxie as well. Amazing: the Galaxie's original Wimbledon White paint is more or less intact, while the six-year-old Taurus looked like an overcooked flan with its peeled clearcoat and crazed, spotted base coat. I finally decided I couldn't take it any more.
In any case, though, the Taurus is due back before we leave on vacation and I'd like to keep it inside for a few days. That means moving the wagon far enough to make room in our rather tight two-car garage. Gutted and engineless, the car moves easily on floor jack and rear wheels.
