The Crites 429/460 mount kit showed up today. Grossly disappointing. The kit includes two engine mounts and two pieces of flat steel stock for relocating the transmission mount.
The engine mounts are some variety of later mount, with the original mounting stud cut off, a hole drilled through the entire mount, and a bolt set through the hole and welded on the engine side. Since this bolt is welded to the engine-side plate of the mount, and bolts to the frame, the net result will be something akin to a solid mount.
I'm not willing to put up with that.

The March 15, 1997 issue of the Galaxie Gazette had an article from Ted McMurray on 429/460 swaps that described adapting the stock FE mount by turning it sideways. I'm not 100% happy with this approach, either, but it's reasonable and there's no doubt in my mind it's better than Crites' solution.
Before I go down that route, though, I'll look around a little further. It looks like the FE mount could be used in its normal position, if necessary, by bolting a rectangular 3/16" plate to the new engine, cutting the existing mounting lugs off the FE mount, drilling a couple new holes through the mount and bolting it to the plate.
Oh well.
