Pretty amazing how little a Country Sedan wagon really weighs when it's down to just a bodyshell on a frame. It's easy enough to wheel the thing out into the driveway to work on it now, despite the fact that a floorjack substitutes for the front suspension.
Front hub assemblies are being machined at Performance Fabrication. Odd problems turn up when and where you'd least expect. The rotors and hubs themselves are proving to be no problem. What apparently is a problem is finding a wheel stud with a long enough unthreaded shank to go through both the hub and rotor. Steve is contemplating machining some threaded sleeves to go on the threads through the rotor. We'll see how it all comes out.
No further progress on the car itself; mainly it's being used as storage for a bunch of Taurus parts until I get around to bolting 'em on the SHO.
Had hoped to have the frame out by now but no such luck. Things like work and keeping the other cars running have gotten in the way. Next weekend for sure...
One email correspondent who runs his '63 Galaxie in Nevada open-road races had installed a front anti-roll bar from Quickor Engineering. I'd had Quickor hardware in a Falcon I once owned, as well as a Saab 900, and it was generally quite good quality. Gave them a call and, $149 later, a 1 1/8" anti-roll bar is on its way.
He is also using Carrera shocks (FYI: as of 10/26/97 website is an Under Construction banner but they can be reached at 770-451-8811). I've got KYB single-tube fronts; I may check out the Carreras but have to this point been thinking more in terms of using some Impala SS Bilsteins in back.
