We grab the customary buffet breakfast and head out to the base of the Schilthorn cable car. Pricey - it'd seem the tariffs are set up so that the tourists subsidize the locals. The Schilthorn ads push their James Bond movie connection - the car-house at the top has a continuous showing of the mountaintop scenes from On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Yes, that's right, 1969's You Only Work Once - the first, last, and only George Lazenby Bond film. Eva remains in the car-house, but I slog my way about 500m out into the snow and take a few snapshots.

| Schilthorn and Mürren |
We stop at Mürren on the way down and wander to the far end of town, have pasta at Stübli-something-or-another to pacify Eva. Once we're back down off the hill, we return to the hotel - the lakefront-park area is much busier now, and the boat rental shack has no kayaks available. We rent a rowboat instead. It turns out to be about the size and shape of a dismasted caravel and rowing this period piece to and fro for an hour, dodging the lake ferry on its periodic runs, proves to be something of a workout.
After a brief rest, Eva concludes somewhat to my annoyance that we need to do laundry. She finds a self-service laundromat in the hotel directory, and we bundle up the grubbies and head into town. This place seems to be something of a social center for American and English tourists. Good thing, too, as it takes two and a half hours for us to finish up there.
On the way back to the car after dinner we stop at yet another Italian place for dinner - the Stadtkeller across the street is absolutely swarming with boisterous teenagers going in and out of the basement. The man dining alone at the next table explains that they're celebrating high-school graduation. Yeah, I guess that'd do it!
