Day Nine

Okay, so I'm using too many pix of the car...

We're both feeling a little sluggish; eventually we get out and go for a walk around the port area, hike up through town, buy pastries for breakfast at a local patisserie.

We pack into the car for a drive up into Annecy - the traffic and crowds are hellish. One sight that's rather unusual to Californian eyes: the lakefront is rather sparsely equipped with beaches, so the local sunbathers set up camp on piers. Some seem to have private piers purely for the purpose of lounging - no boat involved. We turn back to Talloires, rent a pedalo and flog it across the lake to Duingt and tour the coastline for a while, return to the hotel and nap.

As good as last night's dinner was, I'm rather surprised when Eva wants to try something different tonight. We think about taking the lakeside ferryboat but end up driving again. We should have taken the ferry - traffic is a little lighter but by no means light. We get some distance up the road to Menthon but find nothing but snack bars.

The next town is Veyrier, and traffic finally forces us off the road into town. We end up at the Hotel Le Lac, on the water. The staff speaks little English, but we get by.

A slow day, but we needed the rest.
